History and mission

History

Fondazione Fiamma Viva ETS was established on 28 March 2025 – the anniversary of the birth of Saint Teresa of Ávila (1515–1582), Foundress of the Order of Discalced Carmelites and Doctor of the Church – on the initiative of the General Council of the Order. The Foundation was created as a modern and effective instrument for addressing the many challenges of the Order’s presence in the contemporary world, particularly in education and training and in the protection and enhancement of the cultural, historical and artistic heritage entrusted to Carmel throughout its centuries-old history.

Mission

  • Promote culture, education and training as instruments of human and social growth.
  • Protect and enhance historical, artistic and cultural heritage, particularly that connected with the Discalced Carmelites.
  • Share knowledge through cultural and artistic activities and research initiatives.
  • Support study and in-depth learning through conferences, publications and scholarships.
  • Contribute to a more aware, supportive society focused on the common good.

Preserve memory, nourish the present, guide the future.
